Fan, Traditional - Northwest Breeze, Bamboo

This fan is made of bamboo and rigid satin-finished fabric and has a refined, traditional design.
On its front, it features a bamboo grove with a poem about the arrival of autumn and the Xīběi fēng (northwest wind). This two-coloured fan has two Chinese characters on its reverse side meaning 'wind' and 'clear'; hence the name of this fan illustrating the arrival of the cooler seasons in the land.

This fan is not suitable for traditional Tai-Chi practice (slamming of the weapon).
It is designed for decoration and demonstration, it can also be used in summer :)

The different parts of a fan

• The leaf (also named mount) : fabric or canvas of the fan, it is the most decorated part
• The guards : thick branches at the extremities.

This part protects the fan when it is closed

• The sticks: branches located between the 2 pieces of leaf (fabric). The visible ones are called "sticks" and those covered by the leaf are called "ribs" or "slips".
