Ideal for Aikido, Kendo, Kyujutsu and Kenjutsu, the hakama is a wide pair of traditional Japanese pleated trousers. The seven pleats (five on the front, two on the back) represent the seven virtues that every practitioner should possess :

• "Chugi" : fidelity, devotion and hamorny
• "Gi" : honour, justice and integrity
• "Jin" : benevolence, charity, generosity, humanity and pity
• "makoto" : truth, sincerity and honesty
• "Meiyo" : honour, glory and prestige
• "Rei" : courtesy
• "Yuki" : courage, bravery
