Muay Thai fighters are traditionally equipped with a Mongkon (or sometimes written as Mongkol, a headband worn around the head that brings glory and protection to the warrior) and Prajeets (worn as a belt around the biceps during fights to give strength and vigor to the wearer and to ward off danger). The Mongkon gave indications on the region and style of the boxer.

In the oldest form of Muay Thai (Muay Boran), which dates back several centuries, warriors bandaged their fists to gain strength and to protect their fingers and wrists from injury. This rope bandage is known as Kaad Chuek.
